Stress management in banking sector
Our economy has shown growth in almost all sectors, but stress has also joined hands with growth. Individuals under stress are experiencing various psychological disorders, the feelings of frustration, dissatisfaction with general life. Organization stress ultimately results in employee turnover, changes in employees behavior and attitude.
Stressors
There are numerous factors which cause stress among employees like role conflict, uncertainty, insecurity, fears concerning job loss, job changes, compensation, changes in power, status, prestige, workload, long working hours, technological problem at work, inadequate salary, worries at home, group differences and communication.
There are many workplace stresses, such as clients and deadlines, which can cause stress and anxiety. Therefore, employers should look for ways to help employees reduce these stresses.
Effect of Stress
Excessive stress proves to be harmful for an individual. It ultimately leads to health issues and loss of productivity. Absenteeism, arriving late, leaving early, etc., loss of productivity, increase in employee turnover , memory loss, etc., cribbing, various psychological problems, over-reacting, arguing, getting irritated, frustration, suicides, deteriorating health, more of accidents, etc., eating disorders, excessive smoking and drinking, depression, improper work, delay in completion of job etc. are the outcomes of stress.
Various strategies that ABC bank is implementing to eliminate stress:
Employee Development Programmes (EAP) should be conducted from the initial stage so that employees can easily understand the working environment. Events are being conducted by ABC Bank according to the level of employees. (
In ABC Bank, HR department always support and encourage taking up roles that help employees to balance work and family life.(Counselling programmes )
Meditation and yoga is also a solution. Expertise is employed for providing counseling service to various employees in ABC bank.
Conclusion
Efficiency of a workforce is interdependent with the health and inner peace of an employee. Giving more importance to work and less importance to health and family is the main reasons behind this workplace stress. Organizations need to spend on stress management programmes, so they can maximize their profit which would also help in generating satisfaction among employees and creating an environment which is stress free.
